Dave, Norman remembers Mr Moreton of Molyneux rd. He says used to deliver twice a day.
This was the Morton family, originally from Wensleydale, who took over the dairy business at 138 Molyneux Road, Kensington, before 1911. William Thomas was from Middleham, his wife Tibbie (nee Horner), from Caldbergh; they were married in the Leyburn district in 1888, and had six children in 1911, the four eldest all born in the Blackburn district, the fifth at Blackpool. After William died in 1929, Tibbie continued to run the business, at least nominally, until well after WW2 - she died in 1953, aged 91. By 1958 their younger son Wilfred, born in Liverpool in 1903, was in charge; he was still running the business in 1966, his style 'dairyman' rather than 'cowkeeper' - he died in 1981, aged 77. The premises of this former urban farm are now known simply as 'The Dairy', so the business continues, albeit in a somewhat different form.
Hi Alan. Good to hear from you. Thanks for that information. When I checked the address on Street View, I was surprised to find that it is a mid-terrace property. But, then I looked round the back to find a large building (accessible from Coleridge Street) directly to the rear - that must be a good candidate for a shippon. Also, looks like the land in Coleridge Street was being developed at the time of the Street View image, so might have gone by now.
