Hi. I've just finished posting another cartload of Cowkeeping stuff on my website, including family histories, memoirs and photos. Many thanks to those who have contributed material.
If you have material that's suitable for creating an article about your cowkeeping ancestors, drop me a line and I'll see what we can do about adding it to the website. Ta. Dave.

Hi I was speaking to my mum today her name is Barbara ashley her grandad was Samuel Allen married to Bertha cannon. This prompted me to find your article which I found really interesting because I always knew that Samuel Allen my grandmothers father kept cows in thekensington area. I had also been told that Samuel Allen got into debt because he was a gambler and that he actually hung himself. Because of this my nan and all the children went into a children's home. All very sad. Could you please let me know where I could get your books which outline my mums family history I think that she would find this really interesting . I will also have a look through our many photos and see what I can find thank you. Julie

Hi Julie. Thanks for getting in touch. Since my book, 'Liverpool Cowkeepers', was published last year, a number of people have contacted me with information about their cowkeeping ancestors. If there are also useable images, I've been able to write them into an article and post them on my website. The article you refer to was submitted to me by Brian Phythian and included reference to a number of cowkeeping families, all connected by marriage - including the Allen family.
However, my book describes the life and times of the Liverpool cowkeepers in general, illustrated by reference to my own family history - I'm afraid it does not include any specific references to the Allen family. If you are still interested in buying a copy, just drop me an email with your details - david.joy1@tesco.net
If you do have further information and photos of your branch of the Allen family, then I'd love to see them - perhaps with a view to writing a further article for the website.
Thanks again for getting in touch. Dave.

Dave referred to my article which he kindly included on his website, and in a roundabout way we are related.
Samuel Allen was one of 6 children of Felix Sayer Allen and Hannah Sheldon. Samuel's brother, Felix Edward Allen, is my wife's grandfather. Samuel died 1925 not only hanging himself in the shippon. The inquest shows he had money worries but did not specify gambling was the cause.
Samuel had 15 children with Bertha, who also had another two years after he died. We will be happy to share the information we have of the family, although you may already know most of it.
Brian Phythian
